About Us & Disclaimer

We are the only LDS gun site on the internet. Maybe there are others but I haven't found them.

The site is named LDS Gunsite in honor of the Orange Gunsite or Gunsite Academy, the school that was originally American Pistol Institute in Arizona.

Burn

Burn is short for Burning Bush and is my "callsign". When I was a teenager attending LDS Seminary in the year we studied the Old Testament, I had a big red-haired afro. Someone looked at me as we were studying about Moses and said "Burning Bush!" So that became my nickname that year. When I was in jump school in the military I was asked for a call sign. All I could think of was Burning Bush.

I served for several years in the military and have been a small arms instructor. I have been everywhere from Ft. Devins, Mass. to McDill AFB, Florida, to Fairchild AFB, WA to Ft. Irwin, CA. I have served and trained with members of every branch of the military. I have friends who are FAC's in the Air Force, Green Beret in the Army, SEALs in the Navy and Force Recon in the Marines. I also have friends who are in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Security, Border Patrol, Customs, DEA, FBI, CIA, and Dipolomatic Security. I've been privileged to know, train with, and learn from all of these professionals. I now work on a Federal Installation and keep my feet wet working for the military. Thanks to my friends in the military, I've had experience shooting a large variety of weapons. Even got to fire a howitzer once!
I've loved guns all my life.
My wife and I have been married over 40 years and we have several children (my slice elements). I've been shooting from my hunting days as a youth, to my days teaching small arms in the military, until now spending trigger time on the range a few times a week. I've learned a lot, but there's so much I have to learn!

I also served a mission in Canada and love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Choirboy

I've been around guns my entire life. One of the reasons I joined the military was I'd heard guns were involved. I had many great opportunities in the military to learn about weapons. I served for several years as a FAC (forward air controller). After the military I joined the FBI. With many years of service there I was finally approached by a friend of mine who heard I was leaving the FBI. He offered me a job working for the Church in their security department. I've been doing that for several years and my wife thinks I'll never retire. I enjoy the challenge of personal security. I also get to carry a gun!
Update: I did finally retire! So now I spend time with my wife and Grandkids.
I served a mission to Denmark. I came home after 2 years because they wouldn't let me play with guns in the mission field!

FLAG (Fights Like A Girl)

This is "Mrs Burn" She is known as FLAG. That is an acronym for “Fights Like A Girl”. Let me explain. When I first married her she was a shy girl who never would hurt a fly. When we were in the military she would complain about our housing on base. She could not get any satisfaction and felt she was getting the runaround all the time. I finally told her I couldn’t deal with this and do my job too. I was gone on temp duty enough to where I could not deal with any house problems while I was gone. I told her “This is the military, everyone has a boss! Go up the chain until you get what you want!” This she did. It made her a scrappy fighter who stands up for herself and others. Sometimes when she and I disagree I regret encouraging her to take a stand and never give up, but it has brought out an independent streak that she has always had in her. It’s one of the things that attracted me to her. When I was working under a car or cutting wood, she was always right there beside me. You will never catch my wife saying “Eeeew, that’s yucky!” When something needs to be done she jumps in. So her fighting like a girl is not a derogatory thing. She taught our daughters the same thing. They are girls, but not push-overs. It also helps that they heard their Dad always say “Close and engage!”
FLAG has extensive experience in many areas of preparation. She has run our family storage plan for years. To those of you with a years supply of food, you understand that storing and rotating food is a big job. Over the years we’ve wasted very little. She uses our food storage every day. She also knows and understands nutrition and herbal healing. Her knowledge of gardening and so many other preparedness subjects could keep us all busy for a long time. She was taught to cook and bake by her Father, a trained and experienced Head Chef. He worked for many years for oil companies on oil finding ships. He was in charge of the chefs that cooked on these ships. So not only could he cook, he was quite adventurous.
FLAG is also the Mother of several kids and so she is everything in our home. She has homeschooled all of our children for 32 years. She has always been an advocate of self-defense. She is also trained in the medical field and worked in a Laboratory of a hospital. Her talents are many, her experience is vast. We can learn from her.
She's also been a Relief Society President, a Young Woman President, A Primary President, and has taught Seminary for over 10 years. She has put up with me for over 40+ years and is my High School sweetheart.

Don Verde

I'd like to introduce a guest writer. Don Verde is a retired law enforcement federal agent. He has extensive experience in guns and was a weapons instructor as a Marine. I've known this great man for many years. We served in the Church in many different capacities and he is a returned missionary. He is a great leader and he and his wonderful wife have trained for years in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

  1. You site is interesting. Not sure if I agree with it all, but you certainly have the freedom to speak your piece. My question to you (Burning Bush) is you stated that you work on a "Federal installation." Would that be with the NSA in Utah? If not, would you mind sharing with us which one?

  2. Hey Ralph, Thanks for commenting. I appreciate you not necessarily buying everything you read here, or hopefully anywhere else! And yes, this blog is completely, positively, only opinion.
As far as where I work I can tell you it is not the NSA. As far as sharing where I work, if you've read any of the articles here about privacy you will know that I feel that certain information is private. Especially on this extremely UNprivate (is that a word?) internet!

  4. Came across your site by accident and liked it. The missionaries check on me occasionally. Always trying to get me to come to church, but I told them they can't get me into a gun free kill zone. I'm never more the 2 feet away from a gun. I'm impressed with your background. I know I'll learn from it.
    Thanks Eric

  5. Just found the site by accident. The LDS tag made me curious. Glad to see someone putting this out there for the LDS community. While great at food storage, etc... the majority gloss over a lot of the uncomfortable aspects from my experience.

You're putting out good info for people that can be put to use immediately. Thanks for putting this stuff out there for others.
